Sadie and Derek met online, and they knew it was different for both of them. Their conversations were genuine, and they messaged a lot! It’s still up for debate on who asked who they both seem to think it was their own idea on the first date. They agreed to meet at the Kincardine McDonald’s parking lot because Derek (a Walkerton boy) had gotten lost in Kincardine before and was too nervous about getting lost picking Sadie up. Sadie’s sister dropped her off, and she was so nervous she had her sister drive an extra lap around the block while she got her butterflies under control. When they pulled in, the most handsome boy got out of his big red truck and came around and opened his door for her, and she fell hard, and her heart instantly knew that he was the one. All it took was his eyes! Her sister was in awe too. She later told Sadie that she rushed home to tell their mom that Sadie would marry that boy! He officially asked her to be his girlfriend just over a month later. Their first few months together, they knew this relationship was forever! That Christmas, Derek bought Sadie the most beautiful necklace, and she took him to the USA for his first time to see his favourite team, the Anaheim Ducks, play! The rest is history... in February 2019, they bought their first house. On June 30, 2020, in their backyard overlooking the pond on their dock, just before dinner and right before they were supposed to go canoeing, Derek got down on one knee and professed his love asking her to marry him. They cried, hugged, laughed, and kissed! They knew their love was forever, but it’s another thing for it to become real! They are very easy going people. They don’t like fuss or stress or drama, and their relationship is very much like that... plus they love to be spontaneous! So they began to plan a surprise wedding! COVID complicated many of their plans, but they knew this was what they wanted, so they planned a surprise wedding in three and a half months. Unfortunately, less than two weeks before their wedding, Ontario's regulations quickly reduced the number of people they could have to their wedding, even with social distancing and being very careful. Suddenly they were back to the drawing board. They knew they wanted to get married and wanted it to be a surprise, so they came up with another plan. And sure enough, those plans also had to change. With a lot of scrambling and stress, an amazing community of local businesses, and a ton of Facetime calls, they planned their wedding again. They called all their guests to let them know they were getting married that weekend- talk about a surprise! And they invited their immediate families and two friends to join them on the day of their wedding. This was a true testament to how easygoing and fuss-free Sadie and Derek are because they rolled with the punches, and at the end of their wedding day, they were still so happy with the celebration they got to have. Sadie and Derek got married on that property that they bought in 2019 at the firepit that Derek had built for them with their pond behind them. The work they put in to prepare their property was well worth it because the place was impeccable. The florals, eucalyptus, pompous grass, fall colours, and view came together to create a masterpiece. Plus, Sadie and Derek were so present throughout the day that their emotions flowed, and it seemed a lot like the night they got engaged. They cried, hugged, laughed, and kissed- a lot! The first time they saw each other on their wedding day was a moment that I hope they never forget. They met on a gravel laneway in the middle of nowhere. The trees were perfectly changing colour, and the leaves were falling around them. When Derek saw Sadie in her dress for the first time, he surprised us all and cried as he hugged her. It was such a tender and beautiful moment that they could soak in this time together. I could write forever about this beautiful day, but when it comes down to it, it’s all about the beautiful people. Sadie and Derek put their hearts into their plans, and even with so many challenges, they stayed kind, sweet, and caring. It was a beautiful day for two beautiful people, and we wish you both so much happiness in your marriage and in your lives. Thank you for allowing us to capture your story. You are something special.
