Michelle and Owen’s wedding day was unique and intimate, even in the first stage of their planning. They had always anticipated having a small group of family and a few close friends on her family’s property outside of Guelph, Ontario. When restrictions were put in place due to Covid, they needed to get creative. After many iterations of their plan, they landed on something truly special. Drive-in events were allowed at the time of their wedding, so they invited their siblings, grandparents, nieces and nephews to join them in their cars. With Bill, Michelle’s Dad, as the pace car, their loved ones pulled up to the ceremony. Michelle and Owen were both so emotional as they met each other in the aisle. Something so unique was that they included speeches in their ceremony so their drive-in guests could enjoy a little more of their wedding day. With their first kiss and recessional, the family fired confetti cannons at them, and that was that. They greeted their guests and sent them home with a box of food that was supposed to be shared during the reception. You see, Michelle’s mom is an incredible cook, and they had prepared an English tea party meal before they knew what restrictions would be in place. But what a special gift to be able to share a meal, even from a distance. This day was so intimate, so intentional, and so special.
Usually, I write a brief description of our couples’ love stories, but Michelle and Owen say it way better than I ever could.
“We met while working at The Gideons—Michelle in the office, and I (Owen) in the warehouse. Being some of the only younger ones there, we started talking over breaks and realized we had fairly similar upbringings and lots in common. It didn't take long for a friendship to form and we began dating soon before I started school. That was 3 years ago, and last summer, I surprised Michelle big time with a beach proposal that was nearly cancelled by a tornado. Life is weird, and being able to laugh, cry, and share it together makes it infinitely better.
Most of our time together is pretty unstructured and chill. Pre-covid and during, we've spent many weekends and evenings at each other's family homes, and our typical getaway is to a local restaurant—rarely the same one twice because we're always looking to try something new. Also, Michelle is slowly catching up to being as outdoors-loving as Owen is. Loooong walks have been the vehicles for our best chats and discussions.”
Michelle and Owen, thank you for having us be with you on your wedding day. We know you made many sacrifices throughout your planning, and we are so grateful you kept us in the plan. We hope you cherish this film for decades to come.
