Ashley and Michele both grew up in Bruce County, Ontario, not far from each other. Their lives seemed to mirror each other in many ways - their parents were married the same year, 40 years ago, they share the middle name Dawn, and they both grew up in a farming family. It’s a bit of a mystery why they didn’t meet sooner, but it meant that they were absolutely ready by the time they had the privilege of knowing each other. Their first date is not a first date story we hear too often- Michele showed up at Ashley’s work and hopped on the tractor. They spread manure for two hours, and there was an instant connection. They both knew this was something special, and they’ve been smiling ear to ear for each other since. It only made sense for their pre-wedding session to go to Ashley’s farm, hang out with the cows and their dogs, and capture them in their most natural habitat.
To Ashley and Michele, marriage means life with their best friend, a lifelong commitment, and always being there for each other.
They chose to share a first look moment with each other by Michele’s family’s home, and it was an absolute pleasure to witness. When these two women came together, at last, their relief was tangible after hours of prep and nerves. They shared letters with one another, a few tears, and many kisses before their wedding party joined them, and the day continued on. This breath together set the pace for the day. When they needed time alone, they asked for it, and when they were ready to be with other people, they found them.
Their wedding was on Michele’s family’s chicken farm in Tiverton, Ontario. It was really cool for us to film our second wedding on this private property as two years earlier, Michele’s sister Rebecca got married there (here’s her film if you want to see it! https://youtu.be/rAPd9OfHcos). Ashley and Michele were surrounded by their closest friends, family, and baseball team to celebrate their commitment to one another. They enjoyed supper and their reception in a cleared-out shed on the property that was beautifully decorated. They shared their first dance, and then both danced with their fathers- some were more energetic than others ;). And finally, to honour their parents and Ashley’s grandparents, they played sentimental songs for each couple to dance to honour 40 years of marriage for the parents and 70 years for the grandparents.
The day was intimate, playful, and so special. We were so honoured to witness and capture this beautiful celebration. We’re so happy for you both, Ashley and Michele, and look forward to your future together.
