Cody and Kathryn met back in January 2017. She was working full time as a shift supervisor at Starbucks and he was a regular customer. He came in almost every night and became close with many of the staff members at her store. We spent every one of her breaks together, began hanging out before and after her shifts & shortly started dating. From the start, things felt so natural and meant to be. Cody and Kathryn complement one another so well, better than they ever thought possible. She says that he is the most patient & light-hearted person and she strives to be a better version of herself because of him. Cody knew Kathryn wanted something private and romantic for when he proposed. She is not one to need a huge celebration, rather something small and personal makes her feel the most loved. On August 5, 2019, she went out for the day with Brooklyn, her childhood best friend. When she returned home she opened the door to the lights dimmed, rose petals, pictures of monumental moments they had shared, and candles all over the floor. This led her into the bedroom where Cody stood with tears in his eyes and a family-heirloom ring by his side. He had a speech prepared and then got down on one knee where he asked Kathryn to marry him. Of course, she said yes. When they sat down to plan their wedding they worked through the details of a wedding in June 2020. As is all too familiar for many of us, when Covid-19 hit, they faced the need to change their plans. Their large, traditional wedding in Cambridge, Ontario was paused and rescheduled for September of 2020. And again, as their date grew closer and the pandemic was still very much affecting everyday life, they changed their plans again. Unbelievably, they pulled together the most beautiful and intimate backyard wedding at Kathryn’s parents’ home in New Dundee, Ontario. They invited only their immediate family and that childhood bestie (Brooklyn) to celebrate with them. Kathryn told us, “One thing we have grown to love is to have coffee together on the front porch of our new home. We love to take our dog, Bailey, for walks and play a competitive game of Mario Kart. Cody and I have always enjoyed our date nights where we can go to a patio and split a bottle of wine. Some of our best life-chats have been done over a bottle of wine.” They incorporated many of these elements into their plans for their amazing wedding day. They shared coffee together first thing in the morning on their front porch. As they drank, they read the letters they had written to lock away in a box with a bottle of wine to open on their 10th anniversary. Bailey joined them for their reception in the cutest little dress. They went for a walk in the Huron Conservation Area in Kitchener. And they shared a bottle of wine and a few bottles of champagne throughout the day. And as mentioned earlier, Kathryn is not one to need a huge celebration, rather something small and personal makes her feel the most loved. And this day was exactly that, small, personal, and perfect.
