We’ve got to hand it to Jackie and Colin. These two rolled with the punches throughout the impossibility of wedding planning in the midst of a global pandemic. Their plans changed, and the restrictions shifted more times than we could count. But the two of them stayed focused on the thing most important to them: getting married.
When our engagement session called for rain, Jackie texted me saying that she wants to do it anyway. Well, let me just say that was well worth it. Within minutes of arriving at Valens Conservation Area, the skies opened up and completely soaked us all. But Jackie and Colin never stopped laughing and enjoying themselves. Moments after that, the sun was back out, and with a rainbow to boot. We couldn’t have planned it better if we had tried. But this is such a testament to how Jackie and Colin walked out the challenges of planning a wedding under lockdown restrictions. They took everything in stride, stayed present in the moments, and celebrated what they had. It was such a gift to witness and film, and I hope they cherish these memories forever.
When it came to their wedding day, they had needed to significantly reduce their guest count to legally comply with Covid-restrictions in Southern Ontario. Jackie emotionally called her bridesmaids, who were unable to be with her. They were intentional to include as many people as they could via a live stream of the ceremony.
I’m just going to go ahead and list some elements that are to note about this incredible day…
Jackie’s dress had removable sleeves!
Their bouquets were handcrafted by close friends of Jackie’s who sourced and foraged them all.
The wedding was on Colin’s sister’s property, where they’ll be able to visit and remember the commitment they made to each other.
Jackie and Colin took the time to honour Colin’s brother, who had passed away, by saving a seat for him and placing his hat on his chair.
They intentionally wrote their vows to share their story and their commitments to each other.
They included their Pastor as the officiant.
Jackie walked down the aisle to a song recorded by her and her mother on violin and cello.
Their first dance was to a song recorded by her maid of honour.
Their plates were made of biodegradable materials.
