This is the love story of Alex and Clara.
When two people know each other this well and live so authentically, they draw you in, and you become invested in their story. Clara and Alex have been friends for many years and slowly built a relationship on top of that friendship. Though they’re young, they know every part of each other, and their family, friends, and community were excited to participate in the celebration of their marriage.
Clara and Alex planned their wedding on his grandparents’ property. A few other weddings had been held there over the years, and when they got engaged, that was one of the first details they worked out. To get married on a family property is profound. It means that every time you visit, you can relive and revisit your commitment to one another. It invites your family to participate in your relationship, from as simple as mowing the lawn to prepare to as significant as witnessing and upholding the relationship for years to come.
Clara and Alex intentionally kept things simple in their planning, emphasizing the people around them and the marriage ahead of them. They honoured their parents by inviting them to write letters for them to read after their first look. They honoured their wedding party with gifts and treasured moments. They honoured every guest with intentional time to greet every single one of them. They honoured her brother by having him officiate the ceremony. It was profound how many moments were emotional as they settled in and enjoyed the experience.
You’ll notice plenty of words throughout this film. Right at the beginning, you hear Kaylee, one of Clara’s best friends sharing their love story during the signing of the registry. Then you listen to their parents reading the letters they shared with each other and Clara's gift that she surprised Alex with. Then you hear their vows that they wrote for each other and shared with all their heart. There were also speeches and encouragements and so many moments of intentionality, making the day feel special.
For their engagement session, we made a visit to Clara’s Aunt and Uncle’s cottage on Conestoga lake. It was a bit rainy at first, and we weren’t sure how everything would turn out, but they rolled with the punches, and we had a blast. When we sent them off into the middle of the lake on an air mattress, we all felt a little silly, but they had some moments to hang out, and we got some very unique footage that represents the adventure and creativity of Clara and Alex.
Oddly enough, we had very similar weather on their wedding day. With light sprinkles of rain throughout the day, we moved the schedule around a little so the raindrops wouldn’t mark the bridesmaids' dresses. But nobody seemed too bothered, and everyone dialled in and focused on the importance and fun of the day, and it was such a blast.
Clara and Alex are meant to be together. When we asked them what marriage means to them, this is what they said, “We are choosing to get married because we are best friends and love doing life together. God has really shown us what it is to be best friends, and we don’t want to spend a day apart!” And that is what we wish for you both, that you will continue learning and growing closer together. We love you both and are so excited for what’s ahead!
