We met on the track! After our years of both being born and raised in Raleigh, NC and never coming across one another, fate had us meet on NC State University's track and field team. I was a freshman when we first met. Sandy was in grad school. He had finished his undergrad at Georgetown University and finished his last two years of running at State. Needless to say, there was an age gap between Sandy and I but that didn't keep us from having an instant connection! Those who know us, know that God was working in our lives. Growing us in many ways of maturity. Because little did we know the heart breaks that fell ahead of us. Breaks consisting of lack of commitment (Sandy would say on his side) as well as lack of maturity on my side. Breaks full of pain and anguish but also breaks full of growing in faith and fondness of the heart. God knew what He was doing and we came together one last time on August 27, 2014, fully ready to commit to one another. We'd never be apart again. Gosh, I've never felt a love so strong and have felt it more and more ever since we said "I do" I January 1st 2017. The tears you see in this video are tears of knowing what we've overcome, God's grace and knowing that we have each other to fight through this life forevermore. My wish for future brides and grooms is that they know they can truly trust and communicate to their partner. That is how you establish a true relationship and companionship. Knowing that you are fully known and loved is a gift that I desire everyone to experience.
