Oh what a sweet, intimate day this was. Paige + Joe eloped last fall in upstate New York in the company of their sweet little girl, Hadley. From the very beginning, P+J never wanted a big wedding. Rather, they wanted it to be laid back and relaxed. If they happened to have a child by the time their elopement came around, they wanted them there too. Gathered in a treehouse in the woods of upstate NY, the day was all about what mattered and only what mattered: family. We really wanted to reflect that sentiment in the film. First and foremost this film was about their elopement, but it is also about a family growing and celebrating together. It’s about the magic that comes from the quiet moments; the cooing of a baby, the crackling of a fire, the shutter of a Super 8 camera. The only goal for this film was to recreate that sense of space and let P+J+H enjoy the moment. We edited this film to look like it was shot on Kodak Gold 200 film. Not only is Kodak Gold’s golden orange and yellow hues perfect for this particular setting but in doing so, we were giving this film a sort of home video feel - reminiscent of all the ones many of us have from when we were Hadley’s age. To further drive the feeling of nostalgia, H’s coos echo throughout the film to invoke a feeling of memory. We knew by the time we delivered this film, H would have already grown so much, as it happens with children this age. We wanted her sweet voice to add to the soundtrack of P+J’s elopement film as surely as it does throughout P+J’s everyday life. In the end, we wanted this to be a little slice of what their lives were like during this season of their lives. A moment they couldn’t fully replicate again, but one they could certainly look back on.
