Isabel + Mike have been through so much together. In the time since they met at 19 and 20, they have conquered so many things by each other’s side. They have started a family together. They have created a community together. While many of us were figuring our lives out, I+M were building something. Something so special that you could feel it everywhere they were - from their getting ready space to their dance floor.
If you’re a millennial, you might recognize Isabel from her iconic TikTok skits on what it was like growing up in the 90s and 2000s. Isabel currently sits at 3.3M followers. But being with her on her wedding day, there was no one more fully present and wholly uncensored about filming than her. For someone whose social media presence is pretty killer, she was one of the most down to earth brides we’ve ever met. She's funny and warm and treats every person that comes into her space like family.
I+M are certainly the life of the party, but I think my favorite moment of the day was during portraits. As the photographers were taking photos of Isabel, my attention went to their three kids. There they were, sitting huddled into each other watching a video on a phone. There was something really telling about their relationships that I noticed then. There was no bickering, no yelling, no fighting for attention between them. They all shared the same space - kindly, peacefully, and affectionately. Just as Isabel greeted every single person (vendors included) with the utmost joy and affection, her kids modeled that behavior between each other and everyone around them. This is what it’s like to be around I+M - you are welcomed and you are loved. We knew when it came time to edit their wedding film, it was their kids that should narrate their video.
“They say when you meet the love of your life, time stops, and that's true. What they don't tell you is that when it starts again, it moves extra fast to catch up” - Big Fish. As tends to happen when I’m taking a quick break from editing, I get lost in a YouTube rabbit hole of old movie clips. Rewatching work I admire always produces some nugget of inspiration and this one seemed particularly apropos given I + M’s story. This was a story not about the initial explosion of romance but of the stunning little moments we get along the way. There is an ever present ticking clock and ticking of clips as if to say, “see these moments, hold them close”. I also deliberately slowed my pacing down and let moments linger longer than I typically would. Like a long embrace, or a dance with your child, I wanted these moments to feel like a respite from the deluge of daily events; a chance to reflect on everything that got them there. Something that all 5 of them could treasure together.
