On the 28th December 2021, a lovely day filled with clear skies and a chilly atmosphere, Alex and I made our way back up to Crear, a truly awe-inspiring and private coastal wedding venue located on the West Coast of Scotland. It was the second time within that past week that we had travelled to Crear. However, we didn’t mind whatsoever, as Crear is regarded as one of the best locations for wedding photographers and videographers to capture the intimate elopement and interlacing of two souls who have decided to commit their lives to one another. Although the elopement was taking place during the wintertime, we were blessed with the stunning weather conditions for Maddy and Tom’s afternoon ceremony, providing the camera lenses with striking views of the Isles of Islay and Jura.
Maddy and Tom, had travelled up to Scotland with their canine companion Tara who was acting as the ring bearer during the small and personal ceremony, all the way from Derbyshire. The couple knew of each other through the local church they attended; however, the two didn’t officially meet until they ran into each other at a mutual friend’s party. After exchanging some flirty banter and a few longing stares, Maddy and Tom agreed to go on a date, and ten years later, here they are, deciding to become one on a beautiful beach in the West of Scotland.
The pair had quite a memorable and unique first date, as it lasted for nearly 24 hours. The two decided to begin their time together by watching The Lion King at a nearby cinema. After determining that they both weren’t enjoying the film, Tom drove Maddy in his old work van that was practically falling apart. Maddy invited Tom into her student housing hall, and the two stayed up all night, talking and watching their favourite movies. Tom made an entire breakfast spread for them both to enjoy in the morning before finally making his way back to his apartment.
The day after their first date, Tom announced that Maddy was his girlfriend to all of their mutual friends. A shocked Maddy replied to the announcement with “You never even asked me to be your girlfriend!’, to which Tom replied, “Oh, I didn’t think that you would mind me telling everyone!”. Their friends thought the interaction was hilarious, and that was the start of ten years of miscommunication and love between the couple.
Alex and I had the absolute pleasure of working with Gavin McQueen Photography for the very first time. We were also able to catch up with Barbara Campbell, whom we had worked alongside during this year’s first wedding. As always, it was a complete pleasure to catch up with the staff at Crear and Iain the Piper. We can’t wait until we can return to one of our favourite wedding venues!
Maddy and Tom, thanks for choosing We Are One Wedding Films to capture your big day.
