We met our freshman year at Penn State, Austin worked for my dad with the Penn State Men’s basketball team and saw me at practice one day, he wanted to get to know me so he bought a textbook off of me for a class we shared, but I was dropping, for $80 that he could have bought online for $1.86, just so he could talk to me. We remained friends over the course of our time in college and decided to start dating our senior year before settling in Annapolis, MD where we currently reside. Austin had an elaborate proposal plan on his birthday to go to our favorite restaurant in Washington D.C. before a John Mayer concert. He was going to propose on the steps of a museum but it began to rain when we were walking, so I started rushing into the concert. Scared that the metal detector would go off with the ring, he stopped me in front of everyone waiting to enter the arena and proposed in the rain. It may not have been his original plan but it was just perfect! Our theme was a Lowcountry, classic, and romantic evening. Colors were champagne, ivory, and touches of dusty blue and creamy blush. A great deal of our family and friends have never visited Charleston so I wanted to keep the charming southern vibe throughout with pineapple emblems and soft, pastel colors. It’s very cliche but don’t sweat the small stuff. You can make yourself crazy worrying about every last detail but the day will go by so fast that you won’t even notice the small things that can seem the most stressful leading up to the big day. Leave your phone somewhere far away and be in the moment the whole day, it’s one of the only times all of your friends and family will be in one place celebrating you and the person you love the most so be in the moment and focus on what’s important. Taking a second to look around and really soak in the fact that all of these people are here for you and your husband is a really breathtaking feeling.
