I’m pretty sure Blake and Katie’s wedding day was straight out of a fairytale! Their day was romantic and dreamy, surrounded by incredible friends, family, and lots and lots of flowers! It was clear how much Blake and Katie’s community loved and supported them, as evidenced through the many sweet and tender moments throughout the entire weekend. Their reception space was designed by Keely Thorne Events and Events in Bloom, with Katie’s inspiration of wanting to feel like you were in a garden. The final concept was stunning and felt like a scene from Beauty and the Beast. It was a perfect day for a perfect couple. Congrats to the Thomases!
From the bride: "Blake and I met at OU during my senior year and when Blake was one year out of college. We had actually known of each other for a while through mutual friends, but had both been in other relationships during those times. When our paths crossed later in college and we were both single, it was an instant match. We've been together ever since.
After I graduated, I moved to Dallas, while Blake stayed in Oklahoma City. We continued doing long distance for four long years. Those years presented challenges naturally, but I think it was good for us because it gave us the opportunity to grow as individuals and together post-college. We both grew up a lot during those years, and I think by doing that in a long-distance setting, we've developed our own identities and interests, but complement each other really well.
After those four years, we finally decided to make the move to Houston, where we could finally be in the same city. It was a little rocky at first, trying to get our footing after being independent for so long, but after a few months, we couldn't imagine this any other way.
Blake proposed on Christmas night at my parents home. We had finished up dinner and were gathered around the living room for a post-dinner drink, when my dad told me he needed to see me outside. Once I got out there, Blake turned a corner and proposed. I was shocked! COVID had delayed some of Blake's plan for proposing, and I was starting to get a little irritated, since we'd been together for 6 years at that point. Christmas is by far my favorite holiday and Blake has never loved Christmas as much as I do - his parents got divorced around the holidays so it's never had the same magic for him. This was such a special way to celebrate my favorite holiday, but also give the day new meaning for Blake. It was also so special to have my entire family there, especially my niece, Courtney."
