Jenna and Loo traveled all the way from the East Coast to elope in the otherworldly Hoh Rainforest in Forks, Washington. Both horticulture enthusiasts, they were beyond excited to pet moss and breathe the fresh air on the day they promised their lives to one another.
We started the day walking through the forest together, surrounded by towering trees and layers of green in every direction. Jenna and Loo jumped in with both feet—touching bark, petting moss, hugging trees, and pointing out tiny details most people would walk right past.
There was something really grounding about watching them experience the forest like that. It didn’t feel like we were rushing to get to a ceremony spot—it felt like the experience was the point.
Jenna and Loo brought three of their closest friends with them, and all along the way, their friends were commenting that they were always like they were on this day: giggly, twinkly-eyed, and completely in their own world in each other’s company. You can see so many moments throughout their wedding film where they are completely lost in each other and the beauty that surrounds them.
We held the ceremony in a beautiful little grove tucked away on the Hall of Mosses trail. With one of their friends officiating, the ceremony was truly tailor-made for them.
My favorite part: their vows were pure poetry. Without planning it, they both used the same phrase: “you are the sun.” You could feel how in sync they are—like they’re operating on the same wavelength in the best way.
Loo comes from a Jewish background, and the couple incorporated that into their special day through their clothing and the breaking of the glass at the end of the ceremony. Of course, life added a little comedy to tradition: the glass wouldn’t break! Loo went flying up and down jumping on it for quite some time before Jenna drove her boot into it—and clink, that sealed the deal.
Everyone was so focused on the ceremony that we didn’t notice a quiet crowd had gathered outside the grove, waiting for it to finish before coming in. When the couple kissed, the group of kind strangers began cheering for them. Such a sweet moment where everything—the trees, their loved ones, and a dozen new kind faces—were all simultaneously celebrating these two and their love story.
After the ceremony, Loo and Jenna went straight into their first dance right there in Maple Grove. With the rain starting to come down through the canopy of trees, one of their friends handed them the most adorable little detail: a froggy umbrella, the perfect green cherry on top of an already precious moment.
The rain held off for most of the day, which felt like a little miracle in the Hoh Rainforest in mid-October, but it started coming down with a vengeance on our way back. By the time we made it to the parking lot, everyone was both borderline giddy and borderline soaked. As a thank you to their loved ones, Jenna and Loo shared a toast with their friends, everyone hiding from the rain in the trunk of their car.
As a final moment of celebration before heading home to dry off, Jenna and Loo danced in the parking lot in the pouring rain. They planned for the rainforest and embraced it straight to the end. What a perfect ending to a perfect day.
