Jeff and Montana met in NYC while she was living there and he was living in Austin through mutual friends- they had both gone to the University of Delaware but never met! One summer weekend Montana finally wasn't fleeing the city and Jeff was in town straight from a business trip to Boston. Over $8 Bud Lights, he flirted his way into her heart on the Lower East Side. After a year of long-distance and many back and forth trips, Montana moved halfway across the country to Austin with her dog for a year before moving back across the country with Jeff to Charlotte as his company opened up an office here. They are now making Charlotte their home! When Jeff asked in June if Montana wanted to go to Belgium over Thanksgiving, her first question was "Are you going to propose?" (she was clearly ready). He blurted out, "I don't have a ring yet!" She later learned that was a big fib and not only did he plan the trip with proposing in mind, but he had also already started designing a ring in NYC and had it in hand a month later! Their first day in Bruges, he walked around all day with the ring in his pocket waiting for the right moment. Unfortunately, rain and lots of tourists derailed his first two plans. So as they were getting ready for dinner that night Montana was looking at a "locals map" and reading about the bar they were going to before dinner just a few doors down from their AirBNB. The description ended with: "Girls, if he doesn't propose here, in THE proposal hotspot of the most romantic city of the planet, you better forget about it." At this point, he had thrown her off the scent so much, she really didn't think he was proposing this trip! So she said as they walked out the door, "Let's go to the proposal hotspot to not get proposed to!" When she turned around to make sure he was behind her, he had the ring box out and answered her with, "Like this?" Their wedding was a very classic, traditional, timeless affair. The decor and flowers were all white with silver and gray accents but most of all it was Southern! The amazing bites featured mac and cheese, chicken and waffles, shrimp and grits, pimiento cheese hush puppies, cornbread, and pulled pork sliders. It was held at a renovated historic mansion just outside of Charlotte, NC with tons of crystal chandeliers. Their biggest piece of advice? Personalize! From the vows to the food, the card box (a vintage traincase) to the bouquet (complete with charms of Montana's grandmothers), the Polish apron dance to honor their heritage to the "frat basement" dance party that ended the night, everything was very "them".
