From The Bride: Jake and I have been dating long distance for about a year. 6 months into our relationship his job moved him out of state to North Carolina. The time difference, although only 2 hours, was driving me crazy and only having him home 2 days a month was not my favorite. So, when he came home three weekends in a row in October to surprise me, I was thrilled! On his third weekend home he said he wanted to go hiking. I didn’t think anything about it, because we often tried new hikes or anything to be outside. We went up into the mountains and hiked one of the most beautiful…and steepest trails I had been on. I also had my three year old daughter on my back and I wanted to take a break halfway up. Looking back his heart must have sank when I said “this is as far as I want to go today and I don’t want to hike all the way up to the lake”. Jake is not one to get easily thrown and my change to his plan didn’t seem to affect him. He had packed a beautiful picnic for us and we enjoyed it as we sat over a river with the picture perfect view. Finally, Jake pulled out a handmade box and gave it to me. The box said “Marry Me?” I, of course, said “yes” even though he hadn’t even asked the question yet! Inside the box were two rings, my ring and an adorable ring for my daughter. Jake had asked my daughter, Tatum, two weeks earlier if he could marry me and her first question was, “well, then will you be my daddy? If yes, then you can marry my mommy!” We are so excited to become a family and Tatum can hardly wait to steal the show as the flower girl ;)
