We met through mutual friends in Chicago. I (Alyssa) moved to Chicago from NYC after finishing my Masters and wanting to try a new city. Luckily for me, my best friend from growing up was dating, and later married, a lovely boy from Iowa! One night at a bar, I met (and called dibs on) my corn fed blonde. Our first date was at Second City, we laughed our butts off and never looked back. We lived together for a couple years in Chicago, and just decided to move back to Andy's hometown, Cedar Rapids. | About our Proposal >> I (Alyssa) coach the varsity field hockey team at my school. This past August, we had our first game in Chicago against our rivals. It was on a Friday so Andy was able to come to our game to cheer us on. After the game, we chatted and he suggested we just lay low and order in that night. I was tired and sweaty so that sounded AOK with me. After taking the bus home with my team, I arrived back to our apartment, complete with my coaching outfit and sweaty baseball hat to find our place filled with candles, sunflowers, and champagne (my favorite as you will quickly learn if we end up working together!). I was completely stunned, stood there as Andy said lovely words that I don't remember, and got down on one knee. I remember him being adorably nervous, something that rarely happens with Andy and his stoic nature. I proceeded to answer with "Are you serious?" which still makes me giggle. It was private, understated, sweet, and genuine, something I feel really captures us as a couple. We quickly face timed family and friends, and then I stared at my ring. We then got drinks at our favorite neighborhood bar with friends that were free that night. It was perfect.
