I’ve never been one for words, but I feel this would not do any justice for the film if I didn’t try. To be honest, I don’t quite know where to begin but let’s start out with this — “sometimes less is more”. I know it is a cliche but on Yuliana + Lance’s elopement, it finally clicked to me the significance of the saying. Yuliana and Lance are the biggest adventurers and love spending time in the outdoors with their dog, Julian, so it only made sense that we found ourselves tucked away in the thick of the woods of Lance’s childhood home for their elopement. As a surprise for Yuliana, Lance had covered the floor of the forest in a flower petal trail—which were imported from places all over the world and were rich in color and in scent—that ultimately led them to their ceremony site, which was equally decorated in the exotic flowers. It was a quiet, intimate ceremony where the only thing you could hear was the birds singing, the creek flowing and to all of our surprises — an original song written for Lance and sang by Yuliana that had left us all in awe and in tears. It was the two of them, their parents + officiant (and long time friend) alongside the photographer and I. There was no hustling + bustling in the morning getting ready, no timeline to be followed, no 10-min long speeches from the best man/moh and no drunken night full of dancing + laughter. Instead, it was a day where time stood still. There were no distractions and nowhere else to be but here —present in the moment while being surrounded by the most important people in their lives. A day where everyone soaked in the love that Yuliana + Lance had for each other and that love being captured in its truest essence. It was deeply emotional and their words + promises flowed out of their mouths like poetry. Your wedding/elopement can be anything you dream of. However, I must admit, I have a true appreciation for the intimate, simple approaches to weddings/elopements. At the end of the day, all that matters is you + your person. Therefor, making your photos and films truly that much more meaningful.
