How we met: It all started when I received a call from my older sister, Melody, “Nika! Come out with us tonight, we’re going to a concert!" I didn't feel like going out but she insisted. We arrived at our table at the venue. I conversed with my sister and her close friends before the main act went on stage. I went to the bathroom and met a girl there. After complementing one another for five minutes, she invited me to meet her boyfriend and his best friend on the dance floor. I agreed. I stumbled upon two men and found myself staring at a tall gentleman with good style. We locked eyes and talked about our lifestyle, upbringing, and interests. Our conversations went so deep that the concert ended before we knew it. After two months of back and forth online communication, we finally met again at his apartment. It was as if we picked up the conversation from when we last met. Soon after, we were hanging out every weekend, which turned into every few days, and eventually every day. After a few months, he asked me to become his girlfriend on January 23, 2013.What was important while planning: I am of iranian descent and I found it really important to mix aspects of my culture into the wedding. We set up a soffreh table for the ceremony which highlighted various items on the table that represents what you want in your marriage. For example, eggs represented fertility, honey represented sweetness, apples represented good health, and a mirror represented looking into your future. Four women who are in happy marriages and never divorced came up to us to rub sugar on our heads to represent a sweet and successful marriage! It was also important for Sean to have his cousin wed us. We met in the middle and figured we could have two officiants, one of them being iranian to explain the soffreh and do the first half of the wedding, and then seans cousin to wed us and do our vows for the second half. It was amazing! Advice for brides & grooms: Take it easy and plan ahead. I planned early on when I got engaged and found that to be very manageable and not stressful. Do not take the stress out on eachother but instead lift eachother up because it is stressful! Lastly, meet in the middle with your fiance like I did in my story above.
