As most modern love stories, Sara and Nolan met on a dating app and fell quickly for each other despite the fact that Nolan was contemplating a move away from Indianapolis and Sara was dealing with a recent chronic illness diagnosis. However, from the moment they met, there really was never a doubt in anyone’s mind that they were meant to be together. Several kitchen dance parties later they had the biggest dance party of all - their wedding at the beautiful Scottish Rite Cathedral.
I spent one billion hours editing this film. Kidding... sort of. For many reasons. One being that I had so much great content from the speeches at both the rehearsal dinner and the wedding reception. Nolan is the youngest of four boys so there was no shortage of funny and endearing stories. Sara is a middle child with two sisters who also had nothing but amazing things to say about her, especially her laugh. The father of the bride and the father of the groom ALSO knocked their speeches out of the park. Then there were the sweet letters and their personal vows they shared during their ceremony and all of the little moments in between. Their flower girl aka. their dog ping ponging it for marshmallows down the aisle, the giggles, the dancing, the occasional bird poop (oops!) and so much more.
In our pre-wedding meeting Sara and Nolan told me that they just really wanted their wedding to be one big celebration. They were excited to get married but they were also simply looking forward to celebrating the one time all their favorite people were going to be together.
When editing their wedding film, it felt important to acknowledge that — the two families coming together and their separate journeys that have led them to this day. Their gold mine of family home video footage only helped emphasize that. I wanted to create something that will serve as their legacy for a very very long time. In 10-15-20 years from now, what would be most important to them? Hearing their loved ones speak, seeing the joy and love, reminiscing over the funny dancing and the little sweet in-between moments and giggles. Bonus: the way the Warnocks decorate the Christmas tree together every year and the endearing footage of baby Sara’s first birthday, and then of course… the dancing.
Just dance.
