Nikita and Mitch's friendship goes wayyyyy back. All the way to primary school! But it wasn't until high school sparks flew for them. Like most girls, Nikita had her wedding planned in her head for SO MANY years. The groom was always interchangeable, but the wedding was always the same; Some lavish and extravagant 17th Century circus themed wedding. That fantasy quickly changed as she got older. Having spent some time in the wedding industry, Nikita got to see first hand how much stress brides can put on themselves when it comes to their wedding day. There was so much pressure to be in the latest wedding magazine or online blog, or to have a better wedding than Joe Bloggs and often forgetting what the day is about in the first place. When Mitch and Nitika began talking about getting married, they both decided that they were going to skip all of that and elope. Suddenly, all that was important to her was having a meaningful and intimate ceremony that suited both of them. The more they planned it, the more right it felt for them. Nikita’s realised she couldn’t leave her mother out of the celebrations, so they decided to include their immediate family members and treat them to an unforgettable Tasmanian holiday! They rented an amazing house on the remote East Coast of Tasmania, and stayed there for an entire week with their amazing family. Come the wedding day, and the boys spent the morning fishing and Nikita spent the morning making cheese platters and sitting in that incredible bath overlooking the ocean. Mitch made the arbor and ceremony circle using driftwood from the beach an hour before the wedding. Mitch and Nikita had made the decision to walk down the aisle together. They walked to a spine chilling Maori haka performed by Nikita’s brothers. Nikita recounts the day; “It was such an incredible feeling to be standing in front of my husband to be, saying our vows, and having our family members standing right beside us. It was so nice to look over and see the emotion on each of our family members faces and not have to look out over a sea of people! I remember looking over at Mitchell's dad and seeing tears streaming down his face, and I will remember that emotion for as long as I live. Unfortunately, my dad passed away a few years ago, so my eldest brother lit a flame for him during the ceremony to represent our fathers warmth and love. Our rings were made from our parents wedding rings, Mitchell's from his father and mine was the ring my dad gave my mum and Mitchell's mums wedding ring melted together in one design. At the end of the ceremony we threw blessing stones in to the ocean. It was such an emotional, personal and intimate ceremony and completely US in every single way.”
