Nathan and Katie’s story began in 2005 when they were around 8 years old. Nathan’s family was traveling to the states to build support for their ministry in Haiti, and Nathan and Katie met in a friend’s backyard. It didn’t take too long for Nathan and Katie to become best friends.
As the years passed, Nathan and Katie realized that they started to have feelings for each other. Nathan built up the courage and asked Katie’s dad, Dan, for permission to date his daughter. They dated for a while, but eventually Katie and Nathan both felt that God was calling them to break up for a period of singleness.
In the spring of 2017, Nathan and Katie reconnected over coffee as just friends. It was on this “date” that Nathan said, “Katie, I don’t know how, and I don’t know when, but we are going to be married one day. And it’s going to be a beautiful thing when we arrive at the altar together and get to worship God together for His faithfulness in the process.”
Nathan came to surprise Katie for her birthday in January of 2020. Katie was very happy to see Nathan, and the two began dating again right before the whole world shut down. Over Thanksgiving, during a brief 90 second window while Katie had stepped out of the room, Nathan asked Katie’s dad for permission to marry his daughter. Nathan later proposed to Katie on a family vacation in Hawaii.
Four and a half years after connecting in a coffee shop as just friends, Nathan and Katie finally committed their lives to each other in front of God and their families, and just as Nathan predicted, they had a moment of worship during their ceremony where they were able to thank God for His faithfulness in the process of bringing them together for this moment.
One of our most favorite moments from their wedding day was when Nathan surprised Katie by singing to her at their reception!
