I approached this one more like a short film rather than a wedding video, and from the moment I started editing I was blown away. When Natalie emailed me back in March, she was noticeably distressed - her dream wedding was at risk and she was so upset and torn with what she should do. When Natalie emailed me back in March, she was noticeably distressed - her dream wedding was at risk and she was so upset and torn with what she should do. In the end, Natalie and Jesse put themselves and their special day first and decided to secretly elope - on a date with significant important, being their 2 year anniversary! Natalie and Jesse’s day itself was so romantic and elegant, there was such a beautiful mood about the day and I felt every shot really emulated that. These two are so unbelievably in love and they couldn’t stop smiling, kissing & laughing with one other. They made my job simple, and I felt so inspired and eager to document their unique love story. I had this vision of putting something together full of emotion, personality and love. I gave these two the idea of writing personal letters to one another, to then read out aloud and have overlaid throughout their film. I reminded them that there was no pressure at all, and to just let their guard down and express their feelings for one other. This allowed for the film to have a raw and emotive personality to it, with nothing staged or directed on the day. Even once I layered the dialogue on top of the music I was in awe; the tempo of the track, the rise and fall of different sections - it had a perfect balance. I was able to time specific phrases with specific lifts in the music - putting a focus on key shots, like Jesse kissing Natalie’s hand in the sunset, and Natalie twirling her dress in the street. Music dictates the entire film, it’s how it all starts, and this one inspired me from the get go. I found myself delving into the edit and piecing everything together so effortlessly within the first few days. A beautiful, classical and romantic piano piece was just what I was after. The overall mood and pace of this film reflects exactly how I saw the day unfold. This is the type of rich storytelling you get when you spend more than just the wedding day with a videographer. It becomes more than just a wedding film, but an entire experience. This film epitomised my passion for creating beautiful love stories. A wedding film that almost doesn’t feel like one.
