In Fall 2013, Nancy taught her first math class (college). (She had just graduated from UCR and was always a TA.) She had Santos as a student, and didn't think much of him because she never considered her students as anything more than that. One night, they were walking to class from the parking lot, so they walked together. Making small talk, he revealed his age, and she realized that college students could be her age. She didn't try to talk to him until after the semester ended. Nancy was moving to SD and felt that she should take a chance. She sent him an email saying she was moving to SD and wanted to get coffee with him. It worked! Rest is history. The proposal. They planned to go to Brian Head to snowboard. They love hiking, so they found a hiking spot along the way to Brian Head. There is a river through a canyon, which is basically the end of the hike. They always talk about how they don't take enough photos or video, so Santos said let's take a photo in the canyon. He set up the camera and the gopro. Nancy didn't think much of it. They "took the photo" and he talked about how much he loved me and he proposed. She was surprised because she had planned the trip, so she had no clue that this was in our agenda.
