From the bride: "Justin and I met through a family friend exactly 3 years ago on the Sunday of Labor Day. We dated long distance for the first 2 years of our relationship while I was finishing college at Cal Poly in San Luis Obispo and he was stationed at Travis Air Force Base in Fairfield. On the day we met (at my dad's motorcycle race in Sonoma) we only had a few minutes together before I needed to leave to get back to work that day in San Luis. Justin was such a gentleman and knew he wanted to pursue me but was bummed we didn't have more time to get to know each other in person so he asked me if I would be interested in Facetiming that night after work. (I had never Facetimed as an alternative to a date, but I said sure.) So, there I was, texting this complete stranger after I got off work at midnight telling him I was free to Facetime. We proceeded to Facetime for 6 hours straight. Midnight until 6:00am...when I realized the sun was rising and we should probably hang up. From then on, we never missed a day of Facetime. It became our way of feeling connected to each other and continuing to learn about each other since we were living so far apart. We didn't have our first "in person" date until 6 weeks later! Throughout the next 2 years, we managed to see each other at least once or twice a month. We took turns driving the 600 miles in a weekend to see each other. It was always worth it to us to spend time together and progress our relationship. Last September I moved up to Sacramento and we were finally able to put an end date to our long distance days. We are truly so grateful for the time that we were long distance though because we feel like it helped us established an incredible foundation of communication and intentionality to our relationship. We got engaged in November of 2017, just 2 months after I moved up to Sacramento. We were on a cruise to the Dominican Republic and Justin planned a horse back riding on the beach excursion for us. Once we got off the horses and arrived at the beach for what I thought would just be some sun bathing, he asked if I wanted to take a picture. He handed his phone off to some lady (who he had apparently already divulged the whole plan to) and she pretended to snap a pic of us but instead began recording our proposal!! It was such a special moment and I am so grateful that Justin thought to capture it on video! We are thrilled to have our next special day on video as well to treasure forever!"
