Grant calls it "the long game." Meg calls it a "miracle. "He established the feelings. She reciprocated but said "not never, just not now." She knew something was different about how she felt around him. She pushed him away. He was patient, kind, fun and friends with every meaningful person in her life. He thought she was a thorn in his side. She thought he was too. He moved around; Chattanooga, Nashville, Atlanta and Washington DC. She stayed a bit in Knoxville then headed back North. They only saw or heard from each other randomly over the years including the occasional family vacation that he came on "with Taylor."Years had gone by since they had entertained the idea of "a Meg and Grant." They both had dated other people and assumed life would go on without the other in it...sort of. Grant lived in Washington, DC. He used his Civil Engineering degree for a while then decided to pursue a career in Medical Sales. He loved his community and living with a bunch of guys in Arlington. Megan lived in Vestal, NY with her parents. She loved spending time with her sister and brother-in-law and their kids as well as pursuing YoungLife and church community ministry. PLANS CHANGED NOT NEVER ... BECAME NOW Grant moved again, now to Asheville to start a new job with Arthrex. In August 2019, Megan asked to come visit. He gracefully accepted. She lied to her family about where she was going for the weekend to avoid pressure (from their elation). He picked her up in a lifted 4Runner with an ice cold Kombucha. He treated her to a magical weekend in Asheville including an awkward photo the mascot at the AVL Tourists baseball game. Her flight was cancelled. She stayed 2 extra days. After 10 years of knowing each other but not dating (really), they said I love you. She told her family she was 100% sure he was her husband. He wondered what the heck just happened. They dated 5 months long distance. They hashed through fears and old regrets. They learned more about each other over FaceTime and quick weekend trips in those 5 months than ever before in the 4 years of college they had in the same town. They got to do things together like attend both of their High School Reunions, Thanksgiving and Christmas together. SHE MOVED. HE BOUGHT A HOUSE. COVID HIT. FRIENDSHIP BLOOMED. In January 2020, Megan moved to Asheville. She chose an apartment up the road from his apartment. He bought a house in West Asheville, moved 15 min. across town. Meg started a new job and they both made some great new friends and reconnected with their best friends from college. They ate a lot of Taco Billy, drank a lot of coffee from their favorite Tiny House coffee shop and laughed a lot!THEY GOT ENGAGED MEMORIAL DAY WEEKEND He surprised her in the woods behind Cayuga Lake with his mom's diamond in a beautiful new setting that he designed. They are over the moon and feel God's presence so tangibly through the outpouring of love and excitement over their engagement and in the lives of special people all around them.
