A piece of sushi and a penguin walk into a bar… According to her: I always told myself that I would never date someone else in the dental field as I didn’t want to talk about teeth all of the time. My first couple of years of dental school flew by. I focused on my studies and spending time with my friends. As I entered my third year of school somewhere around June or July 2013, a friend (and a bridesmaid!), Becca Shamis, mentioned that she was living with a tall, dark, and handsome first year dental student. She considered him to be a very eligible gentlemen and thought that we should meet. I took her information and stored it somewhere in the back of my mind and it wasn’t until the beginning of October 2013 that I officially met said gentleman. I was a teaching assistant for a first year dental class and one morning a tall, dark, and handsome dental student happened to saunter into the clinic that I was overseeing. He immediately caught my eye but we wouldn’t spend any time together until a few weeks later at the annual Medical University of South Carolina Halloween Party. I was dressed as a piece of sushi and Aaron was dressed as a penguin. Some will say that the rest is history! According to him: Moving to Charleston, SC was supposed to be a a quick pit stop on my way to launching my career. Go to school, get my dental license, get back home and start working. All was going according to plan until I met this stunning teachers assistant (TA) in one of my clinic sessions. I obviously laid on the charm and the dad jokes pretty thick and got her laughing right away (probably more so at me than with me). I didn’t think much of it until a month or so later when I ran into her at the dental school halloween party in town. Even though I was dressed up as a giant penguin, that didn’t stop me from diving right in to flaunt my feathers and trying to court the hot TA everyone talked about. We talked for a bit but didn’t think I had won her over, so I moved on to just enjoying the party with my friends for the night. It wasn’t until her best friend Rebecca came up to me before she was leaving and gave me the thumbs up saying that I had broken the ice(berg) and Mary Kate had been wooed. I took her out for a nice date night a few weeks later and we have been doing date nights together ever since.
