High school sweet hearts does not even begin to cover it. We were each others first loves and now we will be each others last. We met when he was 18 and I just turned 16. Josh just graduated from school and I was a sophomore. We met at Kroger through mutual friends and a friendship slowly followed. We hung out after I got out of school every single day and a friendship slowly turned into a relationship. On December 10th, 2008, Josh asked me to be his girlfriend.Josh and I had been together for close to 9 years before he popped the question! I had been wanting to commit to a life with him since probably year one (LOL). But it was well worth the wait! We were planning on moving into our new place just a week after he proposed. I got home from work and he asked me to meet him at his place. I get there and walk up the stairs and he had this goofy smile on his face. So naturally I was like "what did you do?" . He replied "nothing" Then I saw a huge thing sitting on top of the kitchen table. It looked like a motorcycle helmet and to be honest I really though he bought me a motorcycle helmet because he had just got his motorcycle license and wanted a motorcycle really bad but the object under the helmet was glowing... I asked "what is that?" He replied "take the cover off" So I did and It was a beautiful rose inside of and enclosed glass dome... just like Beauty and the Beast (which is one of my FAVORITE Disney movies btw!) Well I saw the dome and rose then I saw the box with the ring and instantly burst into tears. He told me to take the glass off and then he picked up the ring and got down on one knee and said " Alexandra Leigh Brown, Will you marry me?" Of course I SAID YESSSSS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!When we began the wedding planning process and started looking at venues locally in Columbus, Ohio, nothing really seemed to like "us". We had probably been to every venue in the city for a wedding at some point or at least something like it and after almost a decade together we cared more about intimacy and the overall feel of closeness and love on that day. So we decided that a destination wedding was the way to go! Then while doing our research we absolutely in love with Puerto Aventuras, Mexico, a charming little marina town 45 minutes outside of Cancun. But we were sold once we saw the breathtaking wedding gazebo at Dreams Puerto Aventuras. Then suddenly getting married anywhere else was just not an option. Our wedding weekend was nothing short of perfect. All of our families and closest friends together celebrating all weekend and creating memories that will last a lifetime. It was beautiful seeing our families and friends who did not know each other meet and get to know each other by doing activities together. It was amazing hearing from everyone how happy they were to be there and them thanking us for including them on our special weekend. It was by far the most magical heart warming weekend we have ever had and we will remember it for the rest of our lives. My advice to future brides or couples would be to not get so caught up on the details. This is the most important day of your life for the sole purpose of becoming one. At the end of the day nobody will remember what kind of chair they sat on, the color of the sashes or even the favors. They will only remember how they felt that day and that weekend. They will remember experiencing two of their favorite people promising forever to one another.
