Jon and Katie had been planning a trip to Newport with two of Jon's college friends. Katie had a feeling something was going to happen, so invited her own best friend to join the potential fun. The weekend was one of the most fun (which there are many!) to date. Friday was spent exploring our favorite spots--Midtown Oyster, One Pelham, amongst others. The weather was absolutely dreamy--60/70s in late October!! The next day Katie sat at their favorite brunch spot, Cru, and wondered if today would be the day. (But she had been joking about it for months.) The perfect day had been planned...going to their favorite local wineries. The group went from Cru to Newport Vineyards. This is one that Jon and Katie came early on in their first trip to Newport together, and always holds nothing but the most happy memories. They each got wine, and posted up outdoors. While they sipped and people watched, Jon suggested they take a photo. Jon's friend Josh readily does such, but was oddly freaking out over the phone freezing. Unbeknownst to Katie, Jon's other friend, Ray, had hopped and sprinted with a mysterious backpack around the corner. While Katie wondered why Josh was sweating profusely...Jon also became befuddled as he tried to pull the velvet box from his vest. All Katie can remember is him saying, "Well. It's been a long time coming...and...Will you marry me?" As Jon bent the knee, Katie was actually confused if this was the real thing--and it was! They kissed, turned, and were cheered on by on-lookers enjoying their wine. Ray had now reappeared, and was snapping some photos with a large camera he had stowed in said mysterious backpack. The group then relished in the moment, facetimed family and friends, and moved on to Greenvale. More wine, fun, and photos were had by all. The day closed out with a surprise dinner and champagne at Katie's favorite restaurant in Newport, The Mooring, followed by continuing to celebrate across the town. Jon now likes to say he created a holiday for them to celebrate in the Fall.
