After a week of incredibly hot days, a nice morning rain cooled the day off for a Jenna and Derek's beautiful summer wedding at Bavaria Downs. These two were fortunate enough to be able to celebrate their wedding when, when, and how they'd originally planned (a blessing we'd all have over looked before 2020), and it was absolutely wonderful! Their adorable cavapoo puppy Bentley made an appearance as the ring bearer at their outdoor ceremony at Bavaria Downs.
Jenna and Derek met in college at the College of St. Benedict & St. John’s University on Halloween 2014. She was a freshman and he was a senior. They were introduced through mutual friends at a golf house party. Jen wasn't interested in golf nor did she know anything about golf. She was, however, interested in the tall, brown-haired, blue-eyed guy with the Guinness Beer t-shirt. The feelings were mutual for Derek. He DM'ed her on Twitter a few days later. The two went bowling on their first date and quickly realized they had a spark.
They dated for a few months up until their academic and professional paths caused them to move states apart. When Jenna moved back to the Twin Cities, she and Derek started talking again and decided to catch up over a dinner at the Mall of America on what happened to be one of the coldest Saturday’s in January (how Minnesotan!).
3 miles from her exit to Derek’s place, her beloved 2008 Mercury Sable stalled... a distinct omen this date was cursed. Though off to a rocky start, after a tow and nerve racking phone call to Jen’s dad to break the news, the two went on to enjoy dinner and each other’s company. In fact, they enjoyed it some much, they decided to do it again the following weekend once the Mercury Sable was back in running condition.
She was nearly halfway back to St. Ben's, when her dash lights started flashing and the Merc began to slowly decelerate. Date #2, followed by stall #2. Could the signs be any clearer?
Jen didn’t care; she knew Derek was the one. Though they had bad track record for dates and car problems, they continued to see each other. As time passed, they realized they were each other’s perfect match. They traveled, went to concerts, tried new restaurants, and binge watched way too many episodes of Desperate Housewives.
Together, they built a companionship of happiness, patience, and faith. On January 17, 2019, Derek got down on one knee in Naples, Florida.
Jenna and Derek are genuine, kind-hearted people who are full of an enthusiasm for life and the people around them. It was such a delight to see them celebrated by their friend and family at their wedding! Cheers to a lifetime of happiness and adventures!
