Chandra & Naveen celebrated their marriage surrounded by the most loving, energetic group of family and friends! It was the three day party of a lifetime and this amazing couple soaked in every moment of it.
Thursday was the Sangeet (Mehndi) night, a tented celebration which Naveen's parents hosted in the backyard of their home in Rochester. There were food trucks, an open bar, and henna artists for guests to enjoy as the night began. The ladies sat and danced in a circle around a dholki as they sang traditional song to the beat of the drum. Chandra and Naveen's friends and family then took turns performing choreographed Bollywood style dances for the couple. Chandra even surprised Naveen by jumping in to perform with their friends! From there the energy picked up quickly as the night was kicked off with the jaggo - a dance party meant to make noise and let everyone know there was going to be a wedding! From there they continued with dancing as the DJ mixed a high-energy party until late into the night.
Friday was a more restful day with early morning traditions bringing family and friends back to Naveen's backyard. The couple was smeared in turmeric paste for the Maiyan ceremony which is meant to enhance their beauty and make their skin glow for the wedding day. As the couple cleaned off, the guests enjoyed brunch cooked in an outdoor kitchen by Kumar's Indian Street food. After brunch, Naveen's uncles placed bangles on her wrists in a ceremony called the Choora.
Saturday was the main event and began early in the morning as Chandra and his family and friends paraded in the Baraat to the ceremony hall to meet up with Naveen and her family for a tradition Sikh wedding. Following the ceremony, the clouds and rain cleared to make way for a gorgeous late afternoon cocktail hour on the rooftop balcony of the Hilton Rochester Mayo Clinic. After a spectacular grand entrance, the couple enjoyed dinner, toasts, and their first dance before ending the night with the best dance party ever!! Even after the music was done and the lights turned on, the remaining celebrants chanted, danced, and sang before moving on to the after party. No one wanted the night to end, as it really was the best day ever!
Through every moment of this weekend, Chandra and Naveen and the people who love them were fully present and soaked in every moment! It was a weekend full of incredible food, community, beautiful tradition, dancing, and joy.
