Wedding Date on Oct 9, 2016

When did you know that you were meant to be with each other? When the words, “I love you” were shared after being together for a while, we continued to nurture our relationship that led to deeper commitment and care towards each other. Louis and I never thought that marriage would be a viable option until the US Supreme Court ruled in 2015 that the Constitution guaranteed a right to same-sex marriage. At that point, we already took the plunge in purchasing a house and getting a dog together, which was a symbolic gesture that we were in it for the long haul. With the court ruling and Beyoncé’s “Single Ladies” on our daily play list, marriage appeared the next logical choice. Plus, who doesn’t love a party with your family and friends? Any advice for couples planning weddings now? Anything you would have done differently or anything you’d like to add? Wedding planning is not fun. It can be fun at times if you’re creative and up to the challenge, but don’t think that it will be a cakewalk (pun intended). Consider hiring a videographer! We were lucky that we won a videographer through a wedding sweepstake. We were so glad we have a video of our big day as it captured a different and slightly richer dimension than traditional photography could. There’s something more intimate in hearing each other’s voices and seeing our loved ones in motion. Plus, it’s the closest that we’ll ever look like movie stars! If you can afford it, having a wedding coordinator at least for the day of your event may help you and your partner immensely. They were able to allow us to really enjoy ourselves and not have to think about anything except to have a good time! Don’t hesitate to ask friends to pitch in to help as well; friends helped from DJing, procuring our favors, to picking up dessert. Lastly, keep your focus on what your wedding day/event is for. No one is going to remember (at least I hope) the type of china that was used, the thread count of the napkins, or the color of your wedding invitation envelopes. As long as you keep the focus on celebrating your union, everything will hopefully fall into place!
