This film had me in tears before I even finished it. There’s a good story behind this one… I was incredibly excited when Janay allowed me to go thru some old vhs tapes to find clips of her late father who passed in 2012 due to cancer. This was my first time going thru old footage and also my first time working in the context of honoring a loved one who’s not here anymore. I have to say, this was an incredible experience editing this one. Sitting and watching all those vhs tapes was like stepping into a time portal into these peoples lives. You get a really good sense of who they are, where they come from and who their family is. And it was such a joy to watch Janay grow up thru each of these home videos and then get to edit a film of where she is today. Towards the end of the film, you’ll see old clips of her dad dancing to music in their living room spliced into shots of Janay and Randy on the dance floor at the reception. I’d like to think he was dancing with them from heaven. Let’s just say we cried a good amount editing this one. Thank you Janay and Randy for letting me capture such evident and powerful love you have for each other.
