You only have to watch a few moments of Jamie and Derek’s destination wedding film to see that their wedding week was an epic celebration. These two tied the knot in Puerta Vallarta, Mexico, at the Iberostar Playa Mita Resort. But before we dive into the details of their wedding, we must tell you how this couple came to be in the first place. A MAGNETIC ATTRACTION Jamie and Derek met in 2015 at a BOOMBOX concert at the Ogden Theater in Denver. Mutual friends introduced them, and right away, there was a “magnetic attraction” in Derek’s own words. He also admitted they might have had their first kiss that night! With sparks flying, the couple’s love quickly grew, and so did the number of their furry friends! Both dog lovers, Jamie and Derek had three dogs between them. When it came time to propose, Derek knew he wanted to take Jamie on a hike he’d been on with one of his dogs. His favorite time to go was the early morning for a sunrise hike. But, when he asked Jamie to join him, she kept saying she wasn’t up for a sunrise thing. Fortunately, Derek finally convinced her to go along with their dogs, and when they got to the top of the hike, he got down on one knee and proposed. Jamie said yes, and to top it off, coincidentally it was National Dog Day! THE EPIC DESTINATION WEDDING FILM Jamie and Derek decided to have a destination wedding in Mexico! This was the perfect way to tie the knot because they got to spend a week in Puerta Vallarta with loved ones celebrating and partying. Derek joked the whole time was spent, “beach partying, pool partying, dance partying—you get the idea!” The resort, Iberostar Playa Mita, arranged everything, from the DJ to the cake and food. So once they arrived, they could simply let the celebrations begin. On the wedding day itself, Jamie and Derek exchanged vows, which they wrote themselves. Their vows were one of their favorite parts of the entire experience. After a beautiful ceremony and incredible reception, the night ended with every single person there for the wedding jumping in the pool, fully clothed! And if you can believe it, the crew even convinced Aflātis videographer, Adam, to jump in the pool with them. The wedding ended with an hour-long pool party, complete with chicken fights, backflips, and cannonballs. Going into a pool, fully clothed, was definitely a first for us! But we were so thankful to be included in Jamie and Derek’s celebration like family.
