Jessi and Hung both have a love for fitness, so it’s no wonder that the gym would bring them together. They had noticed each other at the gym they both went to but it wasn’t until they were at the only squat racks in the gym that things took a turn. Jessi had left to use the restroom and Hung faithfully watched her squat rack for her until she returned. When she did return, Hung said, “Hey, I saved your rack for you.” From there...there was no turning back. About eight months later, Jessi and Hung were hitting the slopes in Breckenridge, Colorado with Hung’s brother and they were doing everything that they could to keep up with the Colorado native, Jessi. Everytime they got off the lift, Jessi took off and would wait for Hung and his brother at the bottom. Jessi had noticed that Hung was a little off that day as he spoke to his brother a lot in Vietnamese...she had no idea what they were saying. It turns out that Hung was talking to his brother of when and where on the mountain he was going to propose. Hung made attempts to keep up with Jessi but her lifetime of experience on the mountain left Hung halfway up the mountain and her waiting at the bottom. Finally, Jessi decided to wait for Hung halfway down the mountain. When he caught up to her, snowboard and all, Hung got down on both knees and started to take off his gloves and goggles. He started to share how much Jessi meant to him and how much he loved her...and finally ended with asking Jessi to marry him. She said yes! Jessi and Hung left the United States and traveled across the ocean to Vietnam to exchange their vows. They spent three months exploring the streets and culture of Vietnam prior to the wedding. Their adventures included an overnight boat tour, climbing Dragon Mountain, riding mopeds, kayaking, taking part in Vietnamese festivals, and enjoying the delicious food that Vietnam had to offer. When their adventure ended, they had family and friends flying in to celebrate the real adventure that was awaiting Jessi and Hung. The blending of two cultures was at the center of the celebration. East met West. Vietnamese met English. And two families became one. Jessi and Hung had a traditional Vietnamese wedding with traditional attire and headpieces. The ceremony was conducted in English and Vietnamese so that all guests could bear witness to the vows being exchanged. Jessi wore a custom Áo dài (Vietnamese wedding dress) that had hand painted detailing, while Hung was in traditional Vietnamese groom’s attire. From the languages to the food and music, guests were treated to the best of both worlds from two cultures on the opposite side of the world. Jessi loved walking down the aisle to Hung by both, her dad and step-dad. The best part of the day for Jessi and Hung was promising forever to each other in-front of the people most dear to them. While there were so many special moments from the wedding day, perhaps the most breathtaking moment was when they recognized that only God, in His greatness, could bring two people and two cultures together.
