There is something magical that happens when you stand in front of your family + friends and commit to be husband and wife. It’s an energy that’s present - a celebration of love - of being witnessed and honoring the path that lead you there, while gently holding your intention and hopes for the future. Many of the things I’d heard we’re true: my feet felt as if they didn’t hit the ground all day, unexpected things happened and it was those imperfections that made the day perfect, and it was by far one of the happiest days of my life. James and I met in 2017 at a yoga retreat in Ojai. After spending ten years modeling in NY, I was newly back in Los Angeles. At the time was feeling a bit lost so I went to that retreat for clarity. Upon walking in I caught eyes with James and was forever changed. It felt as though I’d known him for years and like we were finding each other again. We began dating almost immediately – and while we were both newly in love, our lives also drastically changed in ways we’d never anticipated. Six months in, I fell down a hole of mysterious illness. I became unable to work and eventually was unable to get out of bed. It tested us both. Our wedding date came two years into that journey when my health was finally on the rise again. I learned in a visceral way that challenges we go through that make the sweetness of life so rich. We got to become husband and wife having gone through an excruciating chapter, knowing that we are stronger together. My wish for all couples is they to lean into the sticky moments – whether it’s in wedding planning or from a curveball in life. In the softening and coming together threads are born that strengthen the partnership. It’s so much bigger than the white dress and the right cake (though we had some seriously amazing cake) – but all of it – it’s all a beautiful part of the ride.
