Fay and Tom met multiple times. Somehow the world kept bringing them back into each other's lives until they both realized it was for a big reason. Tom tells a story in the film how she came over one day to help him out with a skittish dog that he had just got. When she picked him up, the dog immediately became comfortable in her arms and something clicked in Tom's head. He realized Fay was the missing piece to the equation and the next morning he woke up and thought, "I'm in love with my friend and I don't know what to do." Hearing the way these two talk about one another literally gives you goose bumps the entire time you're watching.
