Enoch and I actually met online. We had both dated several other people we had met online who lived pretty far from us. When those relationships did not work out, we met each other and realized we only lived about 15 minutes away from each other. We realized that we had several friends in common and we both truly believe we would have met organically soon after if we had not met online. When the online dating site first matched us together, he reached out to me but I was, at the time, was communicating with someone else I had been matched with online. When that relationship did not pan out, I responded to Enoch but he was communicating with someone else. When his relationship did not continue, he responded to my reply. But by that time, I was then communicating with a new person online. Finally, when that relationship did not continue, I replied to Enoch again and he, luckily, was not communicating with anyone else so we began messaging and eventually started dating! We both realized very quickly that we had found what we were looking for. Enoch realized much quicker than I did (he said he knew on the second date). For me, it took probably a month or two. Enoch proposed seven months after our first date. I have a weird fascination for jails and prisons (it’s weird, I know) and we went to tour Alcatraz Island for his birthday with my parents. We didn’t realize that it happened to be fleet week while we were there. We were able to watch the Blue Angels air show from the island and then took our tour. After the tour, we walked around the island to a really pretty lookout right by the water. The weather was perfect, the sky was clear, and we had an amazing view of the city. Enoch gave his phone to my parents to take a photo of us in front of the cityscape. Little did I know he was having them take a video. After we posed, he pulled the ring out of his pocket as he got down on one knee. He asked me to marry him and of course, I said yes! We were thrilled and I was not expecting it at all as he had told me he had not yet talked with his mom about his desires to marry me and wanted to before proposing. He later told me that he had talked with his mom and she had given her blessing to him. We decided to get married in Ireland as we both wanted a small wedding but knew we would have difficulty narrowing down a 600 person guest list. A destination wedding seemed like the perfect option. I wanted something different than the traditional beach wedding. My family has Irish heritage and I have always been interested in traveling to Ireland so I started looking at Castles. We found a castle that was in our budget but still absolutely beautiful! The day was absolutely perfect! We had 40 of our closest friends and family there (more than we expected would come) and were able to get married in the most beautiful location! Enoch is a musician and his mother has an amazing singing voice! I loved that they had the opportunity to sing a Korean duet together in place of a mother-son dance. My grandmother has Alzheimer’s and was not able to make it to the ceremony in Ireland. Because we needed to do a legal wedding in the US before going to Ireland, we decided this would be the perfect time to include her. We had an even more intimate ceremony the day before we left in my grandmother’s care facility. We were not expecting her to be lucid during the ceremony, however, she was fully present and aware of what was going on. This was also her first opportunity to meet her first great-grandchild, my brother and sister-in-law’s daughter who had just been born three weeks earlier. My Granny has always loved babies! Her attention was on her great-granddaughter the entire ceremony but I would not have had it any other way!
