Darin proposed on July 4, 2017 under “our tree” on my family’s ranch in Teton Valley, Idaho. Although we love the great outdoors and beautiful Teton mountains, we decided our wedding would take place in our hometown, Las Vegas, so that all of our friends and family could be there. When searching for a venue, it was important to us that we found somewhere unique that was outdoors with greenery but was not a typical golf course or hotel setting. After doing some research, I found a beautiful property and set an appointment to tour it. It was the one and only venue tour that we went on because we knew from the moment we stepped foot through the gates that it was where we wanted to be married. And so, we were lucky enough to be one of only a handful of weddings that took place at Wayne Newton’s Casa de Shenandoah. Not only were there gorgeous trees and greenery despite being minutes from the Las Vegas Strip, but we also had 60 Arabian horses, wallaby and a monkey named Boo. Our guests were even able to tour Wayne Netwon’s personal mansion and museum during cocktail hour. Everything was absolutely perfect. But the best surprise of the night came during our First Dance. Instead of the song that we had chosen to dance to, Darin had secretly arranged with our DJ and wedding planners to play a long lost family recording from 1947 of my late Grandmother (whom I was extremely close with) singing “Somewhere Over The Rainbow” when she was just 13 years old. He explained that this way, she could still be a part of our special day even though she was not there. It is a moment that I will cherish for the rest of my life.
