Don and Cris married now for 42 years - a mighty long time to collect lots of anecdotes on everyday joys, sorrows, accomplishments, foibles, sacrifices, surprises, and even tragedies. Don is from German and French descent born in Canada, Cris was born in Italy but came to Canada at 6 months old. Two cultures coming together in the early 70's was an incredible challenge for this young couple as Don quickly realized that Cris's dad had some very strict rules about dating and courtship. It took one year before he could win her dad's approval. Thankfully he was accepted into "la Famiglia". Don and Cris originally met at Ryerson University during their last year of studies. Shortly after graduation, they were engaged and one year later they were happily married in the Catholic faith. Don did not convert into the Catholic faith until after the birth of their 3rd child. He believes that it was the miracle birth of each child that led him on a journey of faith and hope. Together Cris and Don proudly gave birth to nine children, six of which are boys, ranging in age from 41 to 22. Sadly their 8th child Sara Elizabeth passed away after 26 days. Sara's birth and death experience only added to their love story. In tribute to their baby Sara, the family founded a charity that today runs and operates under the name Sara Elizabeth Centre for the youth of all abilities where young adults with special needs come together to share their gifts and talents through the arts. Today after 42 years Don and Cris look back and understand the transformation that had to take place in their life together living each day together as a couple who became one in spirit and who promised to live their love in good times and in bad, in sickness and in health, in life and in death. Ultimately through complete surrender to God's Divine Will. Don and Cris are strong in their faith and truly believe that the message of faith, hope, and God's amazing grace are keys to living, creating, and witnessing miracles every day together.
Cris and Don both claim to be best friends, partners, companions, soul mates, and their reason for being who they are today.
