Thoughts after filming my first elopement: Focus on what matters. Too often I’ve seen couples distraught, and sometimes in tears, because the linens were a shade darker than expected, or the cake was one tier too short. And rightfully so! They spent a lot of money on the details being perfect. And while details are great and pretty and are fun to photograph, at the end of the day, they’re only things. Colt and Lindsey vowed to spend their entire lives loving Jesus and each other. And they did it on top of a mountain (the struggle of carrying 30 lbs of equipment was oh so real) in front of 2 photographers, a videographer, and their pastor. No distractions. No bridal party. No timeline. And the look on their faces when they were pronounced husband and wife was so pure and so joyful. That’s what matters. Not things. Not the guest count. Not rose gold cutlery. But the beautiful and confusing and awesome act of two becoming one.
