When Celestin and Alex were first introduced, they both had a gut feeling that they’d met their lifetime partner. If this sounds like the stuff of a cheesy rom-com, we dare you not to cry when watching them tell their story. (There’s a reason we keep tissues beside our editing computer.) Earlier this month, we had so much fun capturing their wedding day with filming help from the talented Randy Lau. The ladies’ morning kicked off with pampering and lunch from one of our favorite delis, Rustic Bakery. The fellas shared whiskey and stories in a colorful high rise in downtown San Francisco. And the shuttle ride to the church was filled with bumping, grinding, and color-changing lights. Loved ones raised hands in support of the couple during a sweet ceremony at Saints Peter & Paul Church, a beautiful cathedral in North Beach with arches and stained glass for days. After the vows, everyone met up for the reception at Hong Kong East Ocean Seafood Restaurant, a large venue in Emeryville that sits right on the waterfront. Tables were outfitted with flowers, candles, and hand-lettered signs by SPEC + SAGE, the event-styling company that Celestin runs with her business partner Lisa. Our favorite part, though, was the traditional Chinese tea ceremony where Alex and Celestin knelt before their newly united family to serve tea and hear blessings. It was so moving to see and document. The night ended with next-level dancing to hip-hop hits from the '90s and 2000s — our fave kind of jams. (Shout out to DJ Beltron!) We’ll admit we had to fight the urge to get down from behind our cameras. We always want to film couples whose love is kind, ambitious, and a little goofy. Those are our type of folks, and after spending the day interviewing and shadowing Celestin and Alex, we saw a bond that we’re absolutely honored to share.
