AUGUST 20, 2018 Caroline and Drew meet in Dr. Becker's cello studio at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. They are assigned to be stand partners in the UNL symphony and quickly become friends. APRIL 30, 2019 As they are leaving Dr. Becker's end-of-semester cello party, Drew catches up with Caroline and asks her on a date. She accepts, but they will have to wait until August as Drew is going to work in Alaska for the summer. AUGUST 24, 2019 After almost four months of daily texting, Caroline and Drew go on their first date at Blue Sushi in Lincoln, Nebraska. Among the mistakes Drew makes on this date are forgetting his wallet in the car, driving the wrong way down a one-way street, and leaving the umbrella at the restaurant. Still, Caroline agreed to see Drew again the next day. MARCH 20, 2020 UNL moves to online classes for the remainder of the semester due to COVID, and Drew and Caroline elect to stay in the dorms so they can focus on their studies (but mostly to continue to spend time together). MAY 14, 2022 Graduation day finally comes! After four years of hard work, Caroline and Drew both graduate with undergraduate degrees in the UNL Class of 2022. JULY 30, 2022 While Drew will stay at UNL for one more year to work on his master's degree, Caroline will soon be starting a position as a manager at the Fleet Science Center in San Diego, California. At the end of July they set off in Caroline's 1997 Toyota Camry for a three day road trip from Nebraska to San Diego. AUGUST 02, 2022 While in California, Drew and Caroline take a beginner's surfing lesson. After the lesson they both agree they won't be surfing again for a long time. OCTOBER 31, 2022 Drew is diagnosed with stage III colon cancer and will start six months of chemotherapy soon after. Caroline and Drew start to have some hard conversations about what their future looks like. FEBRUARY 10, 2023 Caroline leaves California for Nebraska, where she and Drew will live together for approximately three months until Drew graduates. This wasn't their original plan, but they both know that sometimes life is full of surprises. APRIL 01, 2023 After he graduates, Drew will start a job at Western Washington University in Bellingham, Washington. Before moving in early June, Caroline and Drew fly to Bellingham to look for apartments and meet Drew's future coworkers. MAY 13, 2023 Drew graduates with his master's degree. Caroline and Drew are excited to be starting the next chapter of their lives together and will be moving to Washington in less than a month. JUNE 04, 2023 Along with Drew's parents and Caroline's Dad, they begin driving their three-vehicle convoy from Nebraska to Washington. The stop in Twin Falls, Idaho is one of the more memorable for the beautiful overlook. JULY 27, 2023 After being given a clean bill of health in May, Drew and Caroline enjoy their summer together in Washington. However, at the end of July Drew's cancer returns, stage IV this time. AUGUST 07, 2023 Caroline and Drew decide to expand their small family by one with Gary the Cat. After three months at the humane society, he is happy to finally have found a loving home. AUGUST 19, 2023 After almost 4 years of dating, Drew proposes to Caroline at Deception Pass State Park. Caroline readily accepts and they enjoy a weekend of massages, relaxation, and seafood in La Conner, Washington. Although their relationship has had its share of trials (a pandemic, long-distance, cancer) they have always supported and loved each other. Both Caroline and Drew are thrilled to be able to make a lifelong commitment to each other and begin planning their wedding.
