Carly's family has vacationed in the same spot, Ocean Isle Beach, North Carolina, for 25 years. Every year was great, but 2017 will be a year that I won't forget. Every day my family would head to the beach and set up our chairs for the day. I had no idea that it would be the beginning of my love story. One afternoon a handsome man from New Jersey with a zinc covered nose helped save my chair from the rising tide. I left North Carolina not knowing if I would ever talk to him again, but by fate we connected on social media and dated long distance for a year before Sean moved to Ohio. Sean proposed on a frozen Lake Louise in Alberta, Canada and the wedding planning began! We arrived in Charleston amidst a global pandemic. We had rearranged and readjusted the wedding to meet all guidelines to keep everyone safe. The night of our welcome cocktail party turned from heartwarming to terrifying. Peaceful protests turned into violent riots and our family and friends were right in the middle of it. We hunkered down in our hotel room as the windows of our hotel were shattered. After a night of unrest, we woke up to broken glass and the aftermath of the riots. Our rehearsal dinner was cancelled and our wedding was moved up 5 hours due to a curfew. We felt defeated and numb, but when we woke up the morning of our wedding, we could not have asked for a more perfect day. All the vendors began to arrive and all the details started to come to life. While none of this was easy, no pandemic, no riots, no broken glass will beat love. Love will always prevail. Our wedding day was perfect surrounded by our close family and friends. We will truly never forget this day and all of the love that we found through the darkness.
