Brandon and I met in Los Angeles in 2015. I was working in television production and Brandon was working in medical research while applying for residency. We hit it off right away. He and I not only had similar interests, but we also shared the same sense of humor. Our first seven months together were a dream: we were having an amazing time getting to know each other. It almost seemed too good to be true, until reality hit: Brandon was accepted into a residency program across the country in New York. We did long distance for more than a year and a half, until we’d had enough, and I moved across the country to be with Brandon. In summer 2018, Brandon finally popped the question. It was my 30th birthday, and we were surrounded by my closest friends. Then came the planning. When we were deciding where we should have our wedding, we knew that guests would have to travel no matter what: Brandon’s from California, I’m from Michigan, and we were both living in New York. So, since travel was inevitable, we decided to have our dream wedding in Mexico. We chose Hotel Xcaret Mexico in Riviera Maya because the resort was absolutely breathtaking. The beaches were beautiful, and we were able to have our wedding reception in an actual cave. We couldn’t be happier with how the day turned out, and the memories we made will last us a lifetime. My advice to couples would be to sneak away on your wedding day, even if it’s just for 15 minutes. You’ll be mingling and talking to your guests so much that you’ll want the time to just soak it all in. Also, a quesadilla bar at the end of the reception is the perfect way to end the night… just saying!
