Dan and Alyssa met on Match.com, but apparently they didn't make the commercial! HAHA After a few weeks of emails, texts, and phone calls, Dan took asked her on their first date in April of 2017. He made her an Easter basket full of her favorite goodies because he knew she had to work on Easter! She still remembers his blue and purple plaid shirt, slicked back hair, and cowboy boots. They got to know each other over dinner at the Peculiar Rabbit where they enjoyed a beautiful sunset overlooking the Charlotte skyline. After dinner, they went for a walk at Freedom Park, then finished the date at the Cheesecake Factory. Alyssa mentions how It's funny how "like" turns into "love" and "love" turns into "forever." Get ready for their proposal story!!! After meeting with the parents and receiving their blessing, Alyssa and Dan went to the diamond store and were "just looking." Alyssa found one ring that she thought she had to have. The salesman told Dan separately that he saw the look, so of course he put a down payment on the ring. Dan didn't really care for the ring Alyssa picked out and wanted to add his touch to it. So Dan met with a designer and decided on a custom ring. He promised him that it would be ready the following week, no later than Tuesday, as they were headed to New York on Wednesday. Dan planned on proposing back in his hometown of Cooperstown at the Otesaga Hotel, a beautiful, historic resort over looking the Otsego Lake. That Monday Dan called the jeweler and asked about the ring. He said that it had not come in yet and should be there Tuesday. Dan called Tuesday and the ring was still not there. Now, this was an issue because it was their last day before they departed for New York, but the jeweler said, "no problem, we can ship it too you and it will be there in time for Thursday". Dan told him the address of where they were staying in NY and texted it to confirm. Great! The ring was going to be there when they arrived and everything was all set for the proposal....or so they thought. Well, the jeweler sent it to Dan's house in Charlotte. After many frantic phone calls and text messages, all while Alyssa was right next to me (he was blaming work), the jeweler was able to get the package back and overnight it to the address in NY. Dan told her he needed to hang around the house to sign for a passport for their friend. The delivery guy was supposed to drop it off in the morning, but somehow they missed him! Dan's heart sunk and he was back on the phone trying to find the ring. He was able to track the delivery guy down at the local Ford dealer where he was able to get the ring from him...PHEW! All his original plans for the proposal were ruined, but with the help of Dan's good friend, George Macaluso, they were able to come up with a new idea for the proposal. They decided to go to Council Rock, a nice spot that overlooks the beautiful Otsego Lake. George went there before they did to clear the area out, recruited some help from some tourists, hid in the bushes, and filmed the proposal. In the end, Dan was down on one knee and Alyssa in tears with the relief to hear yes and the ring on her finger!
