Q: Tell us about your wedding! What was the inspiration behind your day? Did you have a specific theme, style or color palette? Did you incorporate any cultural or religious traditions in any part of your day?
A: Our wedding ceremony followed traditional Indian rituals, and we wanted to keep the color scheme similarly conventional, using reds and pinks. For our reception, we wanted to go more modern and youthful, with our pastel color palette and fun elements such as our checkered dance floor and disco balls.
Q: Let's talk wedding decor. How did you decorate your space for the ceremony and the reception? Was any part of the decor DIY?
A: We kept the ceremony very simple, with florals being our main decor. We wanted to emphasize our mandap which was adorned in gorgeous flowers and crystals. We wanted to keep the reception classy, and incorporated pieces of our life that we held important, such as vinyl records, music, and books. We DIY'ed our welcome signs and reception favors which were custom bookmarks.
Q: What were the florals like in your wedding? Did you use flowers in any of your design elements like the bridal bouquets, centerpieces or ceremony backdrop? Did they play an important part in the overall style of your wedding?
A: Our florals helped distinguish the elegant vibe of the ceremony from the fun, chic vibe of the reception. Our centerpieces at the wedding were beautiful arrangements of pink and white flowers in pedestal vases. Our centerpieces at the reception were colorful flowers in small bud vases.
Q: Did you personalize the day in any way (food trucks, guest entertainment etc.)? What were some of your favorite parts of your wedding?
A: While vows are not traditionally exchanged at Indian weddings, we surprised all our friends and family by sharing our vows. It was really important to us to be able to share that moment together on our special day. The music at the reception was especially important to us, and we made sure that we had all the right music during the event. During the reception afterparty, we brought out some fun shirts with CharliXCX album covers on them (personalized for our wedding)!
Q: Let's talk fashion. How did you both choose your wedding day look? Describe the looks in detail.
A: Our wedding looks followed traditional Indian garments - we took a trip to India together to curate our wedding wardrobes. Maya - (Wedding) Traditional lehenga with heavy jewelry. (Reception) Mahima Mahajan flowy lehenga.Akshat - (Wedding) Traditional sherwani. (Reception) Raymond suit.
Q: How did you meet? Tell us about the proposal.
A: We met sophomore year of high school and were friends for 8 years before we finally started dating! The proposal took place at St. Josef's Winery under a simple floral arch in front of a lake. A violinist played our favorite songs during the proposal, and then we had a private wine tasting!
Q: What was the most anticipated or special moment of your wedding day?
A: The vows and the first dance!
Q: Do you have any wedding planning or marriage advice that you'd like to share with other couples planning their day?
A: Happy wife, happy life!- Winston Bishop (New Girl)(Serious) Above all else, make sure to prioritize you and your fiancee's desires/wants for the wedding. Your opinions are the most important of all, and while it's tempting to try and make everyone happy, remember that it's YOUR special day!
