Funny story, we met back in 1989 as Freshman in Midwood HS, Brooklyn, NY. I can't say we have bad memories of each other from school (life hadn't tainted us yet). Two cool kids. Never heard a bad thing about him. He claims he had a crush on me, but I wasn't into short guys. lolAfter HS life took its course and many of us headed in different directions in. Social Media, and football reconnected us. We stayed in touch, even if it was just "hey what's up", or "hope you're well". An unfortunate incident brought us together in 2014 and we shared a hotel room. I remember thinking to myself, "It's Vince, girl he is not checking for you", which made the decision to share the room even better. I knew I wouldn't have to fight him off. lolAs adults we became better friends and even lent our ears to each other for different things going on in life and relationships.Let's just jump to 2016. At a turnaround point in my life where I had to rebuild myself from the inside out, and the bottom up, a relationship was the last thing I thought that I would be in. After getting myself together, in my mind and heart I felt like I was ready to date again. Not too long after that, maybe a few weeks, I got a random, out of the blue text from my friend Vincent. He wanted to hang out and talk about some things that he had going on. I was pretty hesitant but I went because it was Vincent. We had a few telephone convos after that and some text messages, but that first time we went out, we discovered many things about each other; we are all grown up now, we know what we want and don't want, and we both wanted the same things in life and relationships. He has so many of the qualities that I wanted, and I knew he was genuine. He was always a good guy. When he dropped me off, nervously we had our first kiss.........FIREWORKS!!! (I'd only heard about that feeling) lol I remember texting my friend that I think I had a crush on Vincent and was it weird. Needless to say, he showed me everything that I had been missing. He did things with me and for me that were never done before. He is my strength, my rock. He loves God and that was very important to me. He's an amazing guy! We dated all summer. Spent our nights by any body of water that we could find. I discovered beaches that I never knew were in Brooklyn. I had to ask myself for a while, "is this real"?! And "what did I do to deserve this" ?! I had my share of bad, I didn't know anything about being in a loving and trusting relationship until Vincent came along. He is perfect for me and we balance each other out in so many ways. Ours is a true love story, and hope it inspires some one to believe that it's never too late. *in my Etta James voice* At Laaaast, my love has come along. He comforted my pain, and I healed his hurt! Planning our wedding was eventful. We knew that we wanted a Destination Wedding and it was easy to choose the Island, Jamaica. We were gifted our Travel Coordinator and she was excellent. She made sure rooms were booked, and flights were taken care of. All we had to do was put it all together. Most of if was DIY. It was important to have personal touches and fit for us, not an over dramatic resort wedding. It was perfect. My Son escorted me, my Daughter was my Maid of Honor, and my Mom officiated. The decor was provided by us, it was everything that we wanted to do. Advice for future couples would be to communicate with each other. Do not stress, things can and will (maybe) go wrong. Just remember the day and the reason for getting married. It's all about LOVE!
