“Like many modern romances, this love story began with an online dating app called ‘Hinge.’ This particular app is a bit different from the rest, as it pairs users up with potential matches via mutual Facebook friends. You go into the date having a mutual friend (to hold accountable if he/she turns out to be a creep.) Back in November of 2013, Lori was hesitant to join any dating sites, but reluctantly chose Hinge after much persuasion by her friend, Hayley. Lori joined with intentions to go on a few dates and meet some new people, but she never in a million years thought it would lead her to ‘the one.’ A few weeks in, Lori was connected with Tom. Lori trusted the mutual friend that allowed them to be paired up, as they had a mutual best friend, Vicki and were both in her upcoming wedding. Lori browsed through Tom’s profile and after a few pictures; she decided he was definitely worth giving a shot. It turns out Tom felt the same way, because she immediately received a message stating he thought she was a match for him, too. After a few online conversations, they met for their first date at a downtown DC wine bar, Proof. The morning of the date, Lori was extremely nervous and feeling under the weather. She was about to cancel the date and called her mom to ask her advice. Lori’s mom Amy said; “if you cancel this date, don’t bother calling me tomorrow!”…I guess mom really does know best! Sweating bullets and more nervous than she’d ever been, she arrived at Proof just before Tom. As he walked in, she breathed a sigh of relief, while thinking, he was even better looking in person. The conversation was never at a lull, and they quickly discovered how much they had in common. Tom grew up a town away from where Lori was born in Bergen County, New Jersey. Both Tom and Lori’s dad Marc are in the same industry, and this too, was the first date Tom had ever been on via Hinge. After that night, they both ditched the app, spent most every day together and began the journey that leads them to the Salamander Resort on September 4, 2016. The past three years, Lori and Tom’s relationship has blossomed into a beautiful love story, highlighted by a romantic proposal in Italy the summer of 2015.
