Wedding Date on Jul 21, 2018

We met through the same group of friends while Mehwish was studying at pharmacy school in Boston, Massachusetts, and Saulius was working there for the summer. Shortly after meeting, Saulius was leaving back to Lithuania, and we spent the next nine months getting to know each other, spending countless hours talking with each other, and developing a deep connection, regardless of the 6,900 km distance between us. We realized our connection was greater than the distance between us, that there was something special worth pursuing, no matter the difficulties of time differences and location and the differences in culture. We learned from each other, realizing that we made each other a better person. When we first met, we realized that the meaning of each of our names is child of the Sun and light of the Moon. Saulius proposed to me at Chichen Itza, the Mayan temple in Mexico that falls in line with the sun and moon. Saulius had self-designed my engagement ring to be a sun wrapping around a moon, to reflect the meaning of both our names, and he had planned for the proposal to be at this location while the song “La Vie en Rose” played. Our wedding processional song was also “La Vie en Rose”, to incorporate this memorable moment into our wedding. We wanted our wedding style to be elegant with a clean, sophisticated look and a theme of creme, blush, and marsala wine colors and accents of gold. For our wedding, we wanted the venues to carry the same classic elegance and sophistication that we wanted throughout our day, and Harmony Park (for our reception) and Užutrakis Mansion (for our ceremony) both were the perfect choices for this. We chose our photograhers and videographers with the same idea, someone who would capture our day in a beautiful, elegant way, and who would capture the love and happiness that our day would be full of. For us, it was very important to work with photographers and videographers that we would feel comfortable and natural with. We are both a fun, loving couple, and we wanted that to be seen in our photos and video, because that is what we want to remember as our wedding day... full of joy, happiness, passion, and love, a day two people from different parts of the world came together to celebrate that love can happen at the most unexpected times in the most unexpected places. We incorporated the monogram logo that was created for our invitations into the theme of the wedding, including the table seating chart, the menus, and the program for the guests. We also had a table runner made with our logo embroidered in gold to have on our couple’s table. Our highlight for the night was having our cake cutting on the rooftop terrace as sparklers went off behind us, and as our guests held sparklers in their hands that had little tags which said “Let Love Sparkle”. We had live music as entertainment for our reception, and we chose to have singer Ieva Zasimauskaitė, who represented Lithuania in this year’s Eurovision contest. We took lessons for our first dance, which was a waltz to Norah Jones’s “Come Away with Me”.A Lithuanian tradition that we included in our wedding was the passing of a “family fireplace”, or in Lithuanian, šeimos židinys, which is a decorative candle holder that is lit by the parents and then given to the newlyweds, as a sign of the passing of each family’s fire to the couple. This candle is re-lit by the couple during hard times to bring the fire back to their relationship and help them through difficulties.
