From the Bride: Dan and I met at Bigham Tavern on Mount Washington in Pittsburgh, PA, on July 7, 2017. A mutual acquaintance convinced me to go out that night, despite my determination to paint my spare bathroom in my new house. Although she was not trying to introduce us, she said "Dan will be there, and you haven't met him yet." I knew many of his friends but had never met him. I reluctantly agreed to go out, quit painting, changed clothes, and went to Bigham with goldenrod yellow paint up my arms. I also had henna on my arms from my brother's wedding to an indian bride (my sister-in-law and bridesmaid Nirali) the prior weekend. I walked into Bigham, and Dan immediately started talking to me. We learned that, while I was in law school at Duquesne University in 2012, Dan was also going to college there. We also unknowingly lived just a block apart in Pittsburgh's South Side that year. Dan lived on Sarah Street. Dan asked me what my favorite bar was on Mount Washington, and we left just the two of us to go there. We drove up Grandview Avenue, and Dan jokingly told me he "had the city turn the lights on for me." I went home later than night, and Dan met back up with his friends at Bigham and told him I had him "hook , line, and sinker." Dan LOVES to fish. In fact, we both love to fish and hike and do all the outdoor things! Hence, our venue! The next day, Dan insisted I go to a barbecue he was going to. When I got there, Dan was in full cowboy getup: cowboy hat, cowboy boots, leather vest, Oakley shades. I learned that his nickname is Cowboy; coincidentally, I owned a horse named Cowboy at the time. Dan left the barbecue with me to got meet my friends downtown...still in full cowboy getup. From that day forward, we spent every day together until Dan left for basic training in August of that year. Dan had enlisted as a military police officer with the Army shortly before we met. We stayed together through basic training; and Dan was stationed at Fort Drum, NY, in January 2018. I started visiting once a month. In summer 2018, we decided we didn't want to be apart; and I found a job as an Assistant District Attorney in Jefferson County, NY. In August 2018, I quit my big law job in Pittsburgh and moved to Sackets Harbor, NY, with Dan into a gorgeous historic barracks building on Lake Ontario. A few months later, on November 24, 2018, Dan proposed to me on Mount Washington while we were home for Thanksgiving. We stopped into Bigham Tavern for a drink and then took a walk to a lookout on Grandview Avenue before meeting friends for dinner at one of our favorite restaurants. Dan got down on one knee and promised to love and protect me for the rest of our days. I could hear cameras snapping pictures and turned to see our friends cheering for us. Dan had asked them to arrive early to capture the moment. Shortly after our engagement, we found out Dan was deploying in February 2019. We decided to get married before his deployment and were married by the judge I practiced before in Watertown City Court on December 26, 2018. Dan was deployed for four months; and during those four months, our beautiful first home flooded. I found a ranch on 3/4 of an acre of peaceful farmland in LeRay, NY; and we moved there two days after Dan returned home. We are still in the process of getting settled but are loving our new home!
